The Jacks look to stay undefeated at the Sportsplex at Matthews

Charlotte (N.C.) – The Charlotte Independence (9-3-5) could end Wednesday night in first place for the USL’s Eastern Conference with a win against the Richmond Kickers (3-10-6). The Independence are currently riding an eight-game unbeaten streak, which includes six wins. Only 3 points behind the first place Charleston Battery with two games in-hand, the Independence will go for their fourth win in four games at their brand new home stadium in the Sportsplex at Matthews on Wednesday night.

The Independence continued their unbeaten run of games last Tuesday when they completed a two-game road trip versus the Harrisburg City Islanders. The sides battled to a one goal draw and saw Jorge Herrera net his 11th goal of the season and his seventh goal in the last four games. Although the City Islanders snapped the Independence's franchise record six-game win streak, Charlotte has jumped to second place in the USL Eastern Conference standings and could finish Wednesday night tied for first place with a win and Charleston loss to Pittsburgh.

"I was proud of the guys to come back from a goal down in the second half and then push the game," said Independence Head Coach Mike Jeffries. "I think that's something we can move forward with."

On seven days rest since the away game at Harrisburg, the Independence now turn to the Richmond Kickers for the second game of a three-game season series. The Independence took away all three, road points on Saturday, June 24th when Enzo Martinez’s two-goal performance propelled Charlotte to a 2-0 victory. The conclusion of the three-game season series will be held at the Sportsplex at Matthews on Saturday, September 2nd.

"For us to have a weekend off came at a good time, in that we needed a few days just to catch our breath and get our legs back," Jeffries said. "We go into Wednesday with confidence."

The Independence and Kickers will kickoff at 7:00 PM at the Sportsplex at Matthew with the game being live broadcast on charlotteindependence.com and the USL’s Match Center via YouTube. Tickets for the game are now on sale.
