Charlotte (N.C.) – The Charlotte Independence (3-2-3) take on their three-game unbeaten streak on the road to visit Louisville City FC (6-3-3) this Wednesday, June 7th at Louisville Slugger Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM ET. The Jacks’ are playing on just three days rest after drawing with the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Sunday night.

In the final home game at Winthrop University, the Independence split points with Tampa Bay after coming back from a one-goal, halftime deficit. Colorado Rapids loanee, Dennis Castillo bagged a brace and subsequently the first two goals of his professional career. For only the third time out of Tampa Bay’s 13 league games, the Independence hung two goals on the Rowdies defense. Both the Rowdies and Independence played on a short week’s rest having both traveled for a U.S. Open Cup match the Wednesday prior.

“It was a great game from Dennis,” said Independence Head Coach Mike Jeffries. “Not only the two goals, but I thought he handled a tough left side from Tampa quite well.” It was a “pretty solid outing” for the Jacks, said Jeffries.

Similarly, Louisville City FC heads into Wednesday’s game having traveled to FC Cincinnati last Wednesday and hosting the Charleston Battery on Saturday. Tied as the highest scoring matches in the USL this season, Louisville equalized Charleston with a fourth goal in the 82nd minute. Oscar Jimenez, George Davis, and Brian Ownby contributed goals to help Louisville split points with the USL Eastern Conference leaders.

“They’re probably in a similar situation as us, coming off of a very hard Open Cup game Wednesday, a tough game on the weekend in Charleston, maybe one more day rest, but they travelled as well,” said Jeffries. “That makes it a little easier in terms of the decision-making process.”

The U.S. Open Cup matchup on Wednesday, May 31st marked the beginning of a tough stretch of games for the Independence, taking on four games in 11 days, three of which are on the road. Charlotte faces Louisville City FC and FC Cincinnati for a short two-game, five day road trip, but upon arrival home, the Independence play the inaugural game in their new, home stadium in the Sportsplex at Matthews on Saturday, June 17th.

The Wednesday, June 7th game versus Louisville City FC will be broadcast on the USL’s Match Center via YouTube with a 7:30 PM ET kickoff.
