1) The Captain Returns

Independence captain Bilal Duckett made his triumphant return after having ankle surgery for an injury sustained in the season opener. The defender played all 90 minutes and helped the team find victory over the Harrisburg City Islanders.

“I’m thankful,” said the captain. “It's not many times in a career where you get to open up a brand new stadium in front of a sell out crowd. I'm just really grateful to be able to be part of it.”

2) Defensive Success

Goalkeeper Cody Mizell recorded his first clean sheet of the season versus Harrisburg. Prior to this game, the Independence had trailed in every game, including two Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup matches, with the exception of the Saturday, April 8th game at Orlando City B.

“It felt good to get a clean sheet,” said the goalkeeper, “but it's better to get three points.”

3) Finally Home

The Independence opened their new home stadium with a solid 2-0 victory in front of a sold out crowd of over 2,600 fans. The game saw goals from Jorge Herrera and Alex Martinez to complete the successful team effort. Fans enjoyed fireworks and a night of festivities.

“This is fantastic,” said Independence head coach Mike Jeffries of the night. “I couldn’t ask for more.”
