Charlotte (N.C.) – The Charlotte Independence (8-3-4) take their franchise record five-game winning streak on the road to take on the New York Red Bulls II (6-8-3) on Saturday, July 15th. Currently sitting in 3rd place in the USL Eastern Conference, just one point behind 2nd place Louisville City FC, the Independence boast a six-game unbeaten streak and is one of the league’s fastest rising teams.
"The team has been playing with a lot of confidence, and we’ve managed to create a lot of chances each game," said Independence Head Coach Mike Jeffries. "It’s been nice in the last stretch, I think we’ve been able to push games early and get on the front foot."
The Independence will enter Saturday night’s game with momentum following a historic victory over Saint Louis FC. In a 19-year professional career, Jorge Herrera’s first career hat trick also marked the first hat trick in Independence franchise history. Goals from Enzo Martinez and Bilal Duckett helped the team complete the two-game season sweep of Saint Louis, claiming a decisive 5-1 victory over the visiting side. The fifth consecutive win marks the longest winning streak in franchise history.
The New York Red Bulls II will head into the match with the Independence on less rest than the visiting side, having last played on Wednesday in a 2-0 loss against the Harrisburg City Islanders. In New York’s last three games, the Red Bull’s offense has only been able to muster one goal and one win in the last six games.
"New York plays in a way that we know what to expect and we can prepare for it," said Jeffries. "Our preparation is a little less geared towards individual qualities as it is to this is how New York plays, and what we have to do to combat their style."
This Saturday, July 15th game against the New York Red Bulls II will be broadcast on the USL’s Match Center via YouTube and on charlotteindependence.com with a 4:00 PM ET kickoff.
