Charlotte (NC) — The Charlotte Independence extended their unbeaten streak to four games with a 1-0 win over Memphis 901 FC on Saturday night at the Sportsplex at Matthews. Independence legend Jorge Herrera scored the game-winning goal, while goalkeeper Brandon Miller recorded his second shutout of the season.
After a scoreless first half, the Independence finally broke through in the 74th minute when Enzo Martinez darted behind the Memphis defensive line and found a wide-open Jorge Herrera for the game's only goal. Martinez now leads the team with five assists this seasons, while Herrera notched his third goal of 2019.
A triumphant defensive effort over Memphis 901, the Independence recorded the second shutout of this four-game unbeaten streak. In the 35th minute, Independence goalkeeper Brandon Miller made the Well's Fargo Save of the Game with a reaction stop.
The Independence will next be in action on Thursday, July 4th on the road against in-state rivals North Carolina FC. The Independence will return home to the Sportsplex at Matthews on Sunday, July 7th versus Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC.
