Alvarez, Marou Lead League in Goal Scoring
The Jacks continue to find the back of the net and two players have led the way – not only for team, but for the league. Luis Alvarez and Souaibou Marou top the Golden Boot race alongside Westchester’s Conor McGlynn with nine goals in USL League One play. Marou buried a brace last time out against Knoxville to knot him up with his Honduran teammate.
The Battle of I-77
Saturday marks the 16th matchup between these two clubs and the first in league play this season. Charlotte defeated Greenville in a pivotal USL Cup group stage match on June 24, with Reudd Manin scoring his first professional goal for the game winner late in the second half. Greenville took two of the three matchups in 2025, but Charlotte holds the series lead with 8 wins in 15 matches.
Scouting the Triumph
It’s been a rocky season for the Triumph, but the club comes into Saturday’s matchup unbeaten in their last two. The Triumph grabbed four points at home, defeating playoff hopeful AC Boise, before drawing Portland Hearts of Pine last Saturday.
Former Independence assistant coach Dave Dixon mans the Triumph, who come in 14th in goals for and fifth-highest in goals against. Despite only scoring 20 times this season, Greenville has scored six goals in those last two games. Striker Azaad Liadi scored in each of those fixtures, while Muba Nour bagged a brace against Portland.
Between the pipes is former Charlotte goalkeeper Amal Knight. Knight appeared in seven matches for the Independence after signing in the middle of the 2025 season.
