Last August, the Charlotte Soccer Community donated $25,000 in ticket revenue to McKenna Woodhead and her family. Over 2,100 fans attended the Independence’s match against Louisville City FC which served as a rallying point for the 14-year-old who was paralyzed in an accident last summer.
Charlotte-area, youth soccer players and supporters from the community who attended the game were dressed in t-shirts and made signs in support of McKenna. The Independence’s starting lineup was introduced with every member of the team donning a McKenna Strong tshirt. McKenna’s Carolina Rapids teammates served as the match’s ball-kids and walkout partners for team introductions. At halftime, coaches and Charlotte soccer representatives presented the Woodhead family a check for $25,000, which was followed by a video the Woodhead family had prepared in thanks to the community for the support.
On behalf of the Charlotte soccer community, the support and all the fans who rallied around the Woodhead family, thank you.
