
Charlotte (NC) — The Charlotte Independence professional soccer team announced a permanent transfer of midfielder Michaël Maria to A-League side, Adelaide United FC of the Australian first division. In exchange, the Independence have received an undisclosed transfer fee. The club, front office and ownership thanks Michaël Maria for his service to the Charlotte community this season and wishes him the best of luck at Adelaide United FC.
The 24-year-old, Maria made six starts for the Independence, registering six interceptions, seven tackles won and an 83.9% pass accuracy. Over the past month, Maria with the Curaçao National Team made a historic run to the Quarter Finals in the nation’s second-ever CONCACAF Gold Cup, being knocked out by eventual runner-ups, U.S. Men’s National Team. Prior to the Gold Cup, Maria lifted Curaçao to the King’s Cup Championship by converting the last penalty kick in Final’s shootout against Vietnam.
The Independence continue in USL Championship action this Wednesday, July 24th against Atlanta United 2 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET with the official watch party hosted at Jack’s House Soccer Bar and Event Space (1523 Elizabeth Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204). The Independence will return home on Saturday, August 3rd versus Louisville City FC. Tickets are now on sale.
