Mississippi State Freshman back in net for the Independence
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (April 20, 2023) – The Charlotte Independence USL W League team announced today the return of goalkeeper Katelyn Carroll for the 2023 season, pending league and federation approval. Last year, she accumulated 470 minutes in goal and tallied 20 saves. Carroll is a former member of the Charlotte Independence Soccer Club and played in the ECNL Florida National Selection Game.
“I’m super excited to come back and compete with such a talented group of players in such a competitive league,” Carroll stated.
A Nation Ford High School early graduate, Carroll spent Spring 2023 at Mississippi State University. Her Freshman season with the Bulldogs will begin this Fall.
As a Falcon, Carroll accumulated 2,606 minutes in goal. She recorded 212 saves throughout her three high school seasons. Carroll was named a 5A All-Region Player two times, 5A All-State Player her junior year, and United Soccer Coaches South Carolina Player of the Week in 2021. In 2018, she was also invited to the US Soccer Training Center.
“Even as our youngest player last year, Kate quickly established herself as a leader early on in camp,” explained Charlotte Independence USL W League Head Coach, Robyn Horner. “Now, with a season under her belt at Mississippi St., we expect her to have another great season as one of our GKs and are pleased to have her return between the posts for us this year.”
The Charlotte Independence USL W League Team kicks off the 2023 season on Sunday, May 21 at 5:00 p.m. The women host the NC Courage U-23s at American Legion Memorial Stadium. View the full schedule at charlotteindependence.com.
