CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 3, 2023) – The Charlotte Independence USL W League team today announced the return of Elon University defender Kerri Coffman for the 2023 season, pending league and federation approval. Coffman returns to the squad for her second year. In 2022, she played in 4 games, accumulating 270 minutes played for the Independence.
“I am excited to get back together with the girls from last year and continue to get better as a team,” explained Coffman. “I look forward to seeing how much we can improve with the core returning group and the addition of lots of talented players.”
Coffman plays collegiate soccer at Elon University. Last fall, her junior season, she appeared in all 18 matches making 11 starts. Coffman logged 1,009 total minutes, going the full 90 five times. She helped the Phoenix to eight shutouts, including five in CAA play.
A Mooresville, N.C. native, Coffman played high school soccer at Lake Norman High School. She earned First Team All-Region and First Team All-Conference honors as a junior (2018) and senior (2019). Coffman served as a captain at Lake Norman High School as a senior in 2019 while also winning the team MVP award. She was selected as the Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Year as a freshman in 2017 and a member of the 2018 Lake Norman women’s soccer Conference Championship team.
The Charlotte Independence Soccer Club Youth Academy invited Coffman and fellow teammate Kennedy Jones to play international youth tournaments in Sweden, Portugal, Denmark, and Iceland.
“We are so pleased to have Keri return to us for another summer,” explained Charlotte Independence USL W League Head Coach, Robyn Horner. “Historically she has been with our club for a long time, and has played a lot of minutes in an Independence jersey. She has stepped in and accepted some tough jobs that we have thrown her way. She’s a hard worker and has a great attitude!”
The Charlotte Independence USL W League Team kicks off the 2023 season on Sunday, May 21 at 5:00 p.m. The women host the NC Courage U-23s at American Legion Memorial Stadium. View the full schedule at charlotteindependence.com.
