THE SHIELD COULD BE COMING HOME
A first league trophy in club history could be secured Saturday night. Should the Independence win and Union Omaha draw or lose, Charlotte will be crowned the regular season champions and win Charlotte’s first men’s professional soccer trophy since the 1981 Carolina Lightnin’ won the American Soccer League Championship.
SEASON SERIES
The two sides have met twice in 2026, with the Jacks emerging victorious on both occasions. The first meeting came in USL Cup action on June 24, when Reudd Manin’s late first professional goal lifted the Independence past the Triumph. The teams met again at American Legion Memorial Stadium on August 8, where Charlotte secured another 1-0 victory courtesy of Souaibou Marou’s second-half match-winner.
Charlotte has won seven of the last 10 matchups against Greenville.
Season Series (all comps): 2-0-0
All-Time Record: 9-7-0
JEFFRIES ON THE PRECIPICE OF LEAGUE HISTORY
Head Coach Mike Jeffries stands on the brink of USL League One history. With 64 league victories, Jeffries is currently tied with former Richmond Kickers manager Darran Sawatzky for the most wins by a head coach in league history. One more victory would give Jeffries sole possession of the all-time record. In his 12th season with the Independence, a win Saturday would not only move Jeffries into a league of his own, but further put him in line to manage the club to its first league trophy.
VIBES STAY HIGH AGAINST COSMOS
Charlotte took care of NY Cosmos last Saturday to move into pole position in the USL League One table. In heavy rain conditions, the Jacks used a three-goal first half to dispose of the visitors quickly. Christopher Jaime, Joey Skinner, and Marou all found the back of the net as the Independence took advantage of Omaha’s loss to Fort Wayne with a strong 3-0 victory in Matthews.
SKINNER WINS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

For the second time in the last five weeks, Joey Skinner took home Player of the Week honors. The outside back added a goal and an assist in Charlotte’s win over New York on Saturday night.
The defender glanced home Jaime’s cross to double the lead before heading over to Marou at the end of the first half.
Skinner has now tallied 11 goal contributions in his first season with the Independence and has four goals in his last six matches.
Jaime and Jon Bakero earned Team of the Week honors alongside Skinner.
SCOUTING GREENVILLE
Greenville Triumph SC has endured a difficult 2026 campaign, sitting near the bottom of the USL League One standings with a 7-6-17 record and 24 points through 29 matches. The season has been one of transition for Greenville, highlighted by the club’s move into its new home at GE Vernova Park and a midseason coaching change that saw former Charlotte assistant Dave Dixon depart in September and another former Independence assistant Joel Tyson taking over as interim head coach. The Triumph have struggled to find consistency, particularly away from home, where they have recorded just one league victory. Greenville enters the night on three days rest, after defeating Spokane Velocity 4-3 Wednesday night for their first victory in eight matches.
